The mind-bending depth and purity of the yellow peach and Amalfi lemon character in this dry riesling is like the beam of a lighthouse that shines through the darkness to the horizon. Lots of wild herb nuances, too. And this doesn’t begin to describe the fabulous succulence on the front palate and the radical salty minerality in the dazzling finish that pours over you in wave after wave. Whatever you do, put this in a large glass of the kind you’d use for a great pinot noir. From organically grown grapes. Vegan. Drinkable now, but best from 2025.

The 2023 Krone is deep, intense and crunchy flinty on the complex and iodine-infused nose. Full-bodied, intense and juicy on the palate, this is a highly complex but refined and elegant, concentrated, rich yet balanced as well as tensioned Riesling with ripe and juicy fruit, fine and chalky acidity and a very long, intense and saline finish. This is a spectacular Riesling. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in August 2024.

The 2023 Riesling Lorcher Krone is from a particular site on a mix of limestone and slate. Peach tones make for a rich nose, revealing a touch of peach candy and an overtone of dried fruit. The palate is more slender and defined than the nose suggests, edged with exquisite grapefruit freshness that holds juicy Reine Claude, greengage and even something tropical. This is a beautiful combination of great length, contour, fill and finesse. (Bone-dry)
