Claude DugatBurgundy, France

Domaine Claude Dugat is one of Burgundy's smallest and most sought-after estates. Based in Gevrey-Chambertin, the domaine has built a cult following amongst collectors for producing Pinot Noir of extraordinary concentration, perfume and longevity from some of the oldest vines in the Cote de Nuits.

At Fine Wine Library, we carefully select Domaine Claude Dugat wines that showcase the estate's exceptional vineyard holdings, from benchmark Gevrey-Chambertin Village to tiny-production Grand Crus that rank amongst Burgundy's most collectible wines. Every bottle reflects the family's meticulous approach to viticulture and an unwavering commitment to expressing Gevrey-Chambertin's remarkable terroir.

Estate at a Glance

Domaine Claude Dugat is based in Gevrey-Chambertin, founded in 1955, and covers approximately 6 hectares. Current winemakers are Claude Dugat, Bertrand Dugat and Laetitia Dugat, practising sustainable, low-intervention viticulture and specialising in Pinot Noir. Notable vineyards include Charmes-Chambertin, Griotte-Chambertin, Chapelle-Chambertin, Lavaux Saint-Jacques and Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes.

Estate History

Although the Dugat family has farmed vineyards in Gevrey-Chambertin for generations, the modern domaine was established in 1955 when Claude Dugat's father, Maurice, purchased the historic Grange des Dimes in the heart of the village. Claude later transformed the estate into one of Burgundy's most respected producers through meticulous vineyard management and an uncompromising focus on quality.

Today, Claude works alongside his children Bertrand and Laetitia, who continue the family's philosophy whilst gradually refining the style. Vineyard work remains exceptionally labour intensive, with naturally low yields, extensive old vines and minimal intervention in both vineyard and cellar. The emphasis is always on preserving the purity of the fruit and allowing each climat to express its individuality.

Despite producing only around six hectares of vines, Domaine Claude Dugat has become one of Burgundy's benchmark estates, with demand consistently exceeding production and many wines disappearing into private collections immediately after release.

Signature Wines

Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes

Produced from some of the oldest vines in the village, this has become one of Burgundy's benchmark village wines. Rich, beautifully textured and remarkably complex, it consistently performs well beyond its classification.

Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques

One of the domaine's most elegant wines, Lavaux Saint-Jacques combines floral aromatics, mineral precision and impressive ageing potential. It beautifully captures the finesse that complements Claude Dugat's naturally concentrated style.

Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru

Claude Dugat's Charmes-Chambertin is celebrated for its remarkable depth, silky texture and extraordinary purity of fruit. Whilst generous in youth, it develops exceptional complexity over decades in the cellar.

Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru

Produced in tiny quantities from one of Burgundy's smallest Grand Cru vineyards, Griotte-Chambertin is one of the estate's rarest wines. It combines haunting perfume with remarkable finesse and is highly prized by collectors.

Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru

Elegant and beautifully refined, Chapelle-Chambertin showcases the more delicate side of Gevrey-Chambertin whilst retaining the concentration and ageing potential that define the domaine.
