Pessac-Leognan 2025 is outstanding, and for collectors who know the appellation well, this comes as no surprise. The home of Chateau Haut-Brion, the only non-Medoc First Growth, Pessac-Leognan sits on the outskirts of Bordeaux city and produces both red and white wines of extraordinary character. In 2025, both colours have excelled. The reds show the appellation's characteristic smoky, earthy depth allied to the freshness and fine tannin integration that defines the vintage. The whites are among the most compelling produced anywhere in Bordeaux in recent years.
Our buying director Benjamin Vuorinen visited estates across Pessac-Leognan during the 2025 campaign. The appellation was one of the highlights of the entire trip.

The 2025 Vintage in Pessac-Leognan
The 2025 vintage conditions suited Pessac-Leognan's mixed gravel, sand, and clay soils in a distinctive way. The appellation's urban location on the outskirts of Bordeaux city creates a slightly warmer microclimate than the rural Medoc, which in 2025 meant earlier ripening and a longer effective growing season from a phenolic standpoint. The wide diurnal range, warm days, cooler nights, that characterised 2025 across Bordeaux was particularly beneficial here, preserving the freshness and aromatic lift that the appellation's Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blends need to express their full character.
The late-August rain arrived at an ideal moment for the appellation, where the mixed soils had coped differently with the summer drought than the deep gravel of the Medoc. September's cool conditions extended the harvest and allowed the winemaking teams to pick at optimal ripeness across both red and white varieties. For the whites, blends of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, the 2025 conditions produced wines of exceptional richness and freshness simultaneously, a combination that makes this one of the finest white Pessac-Leognan vintages of the modern era.
Across the reds, tannin quality was outstanding. The best wines showed the chalky, fine-grained integration that marks 2025's finest Left Bank expressions, with the earthy, mineral complexity that is uniquely Pessac-Leognan.
Why Buy Pessac-Leognan 2025 En Primeur
Pessac-Leognan offers something no other Bordeaux appellation can match: outstanding red and white wines from the same estates, often at prices that undervalue their quality relative to the Medoc First Growths. Haut-Brion and its sister estate La Mission Haut-Brion represent the apex of the appellation. Smith Haut Lafitte, Pape-Clement, and Domaine de Chevalier offer exceptional quality across both colours at a range of price points. In a vintage as strong as 2025, en primeur allocation is the most reliable way to secure the wines you want at the best prices.

Key Pessac-Leognan Estates to Consider in 2025
Chateau Haut-Brion is the appellation's First Growth and one of the most distinctive wines in all of Bordeaux, earthy, smoky, mineral, and unlike anything else at this level. La Mission Haut-Brion, the sister estate, consistently rivals Haut-Brion itself in the greatest vintages. Smith Haut Lafitte, under the Cathiard family, has been one of Bordeaux's most consistent overachievers for more than two decades, the 2019 was one of the finest wines we tasted that year. Pape-Clement and Domaine de Chevalier offer outstanding value and quality across both red and white.
