Moet & Chandon

Moet & ChandonProducer from Champagne, France

Moët & Chandon, one of the most iconic names in Champagne, has been at the forefront of sparkling wine production since its establishment in 1743. Located in Épernay, the heart of the Champagne region, Moët & Chandon has a rich history and a reputation for producing some of the world’s most celebrated Champagnes. The house’s commitment to quality and innovation has ensured its place among the most prestigious Champagne producers.

Founded by Claude Moët in 1743, Moët & Chandon quickly gained recognition for its exceptional sparkling wines. The house’s early success was driven by its ability to produce high-quality Champagne that appealed to both European royalty and the broader market. Moët & Chandon’s reputation was further enhanced by its association with Napoleon Bonaparte, who was a noted admirer of the house’s Champagne.

The estate’s iconic cellars, which stretch over 28 kilometres beneath Épernay, provide ideal conditions for ageing Champagne. These historic cellars contribute to the unique character and complexity of Moët & Chandon’s wines.

Terroir and Winemaking of Moet & Chandon

Moët & Chandon’s vineyards cover approximately 1,200 hectares, making it one of the largest vineyard owners in Champagne. The estate’s vineyards are located in some of the region’s most prestigious grand cru and premier cru villages, including Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne, and Côte des Blancs. The primary grape varieties used are Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.

The winemaking process at Moët & Chandon combines traditional methods with modern technology. The estate uses the finest grapes, which are carefully pressed and fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve their freshness. The Champagne is then aged in the estate’s historic cellars, where it develops its characteristic complexity and depth.
