Estate at a Glance
Domaine Trapet is based in Gevrey-Chambertin, in the Cote de Nuits, Burgundy. The family has seven generations of history in the village. The estate covers approximately 15 hectares under winemaker Jean-Louis Trapet and is certified biodynamic (Demeter), specialising in Pinot Noir. Notable vineyards include Chambertin, Latricieres-Chambertin, Chapelle-Chambertin, Gevrey-Chambertin Ostrea and Clos Prieur.
Estate History
The Trapet family's history in Gevrey-Chambertin spans seven generations. By the early twentieth century, the family had assembled one of the largest vineyard holdings in the village, although much of the production was sold to negociants rather than bottled at the estate.
A significant chapter began in 1993, when the historic Domaine Louis Trapet was divided between Jean-Louis Trapet and his cousin, who established Domaine Rossignol-Trapet. Jean-Louis retained the original Gevrey-Chambertin estate and embarked on a new direction, placing biodynamic farming and vineyard health at the heart of the domaine's philosophy.
The estate converted to biodynamic farming during the late 1990s and has been Demeter certified since 2009. Today, every decision in the vineyard and cellar is guided by a desire to preserve biodiversity, encourage deep-rooted vines and express each climat as faithfully as possible. The resulting wines are admired for their balance, energy and transparency rather than sheer power.
Signature Wines
Gevrey-Chambertin Ostrea
Named after the fossilised oyster shells found within the limestone soils, Ostrea has become the domaine's benchmark village wine. It beautifully captures the freshness, minerality and perfume that define Jean-Louis Trapet's style.
Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru Clos Prieur
Clos Prieur produces elegant, finely structured Pinot Noir with vibrant red fruit, floral aromatics and impressive ageing potential. It is one of the estate's most consistently impressive Premier Cru bottlings.
Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru
Graceful and beautifully perfumed, Chapelle-Chambertin showcases the finesse of the domaine's winemaking. Silky tannins and remarkable aromatic complexity make it one of the most elegant wines in the portfolio.
Latricieres-Chambertin Grand Cru
Produced from cooler limestone-rich soils, Latricieres-Chambertin combines precision, mineral tension and exceptional longevity. It is often regarded as one of the purest expressions of Gevrey-Chambertin.
Chambertin Grand Cru
The flagship wine of the estate, Chambertin combines extraordinary depth with remarkable refinement. Rather than pursuing sheer concentration, Jean-Louis Trapet produces a wine defined by harmony, elegance and an exceptional ability to age for decades.
