Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino 2019

One of the best-value wines in the fine wine world with an incredible price-to-quality ratio. Il Poggione's Brunello di Montalcino is a benchmark for the category having been called the most fairly priced, age-wroth wines on the planet by leading Italian wine critic Antonio Galloni. Our founder Ben has personally purchased a case or two every vintage since 2010—a strong endorsement of its quality.
Il Poggione, one of the most iconic and historic producers in Montalcino, is celebrated for its consistently high-quality Brunello wines. Established in the late 19th century, the estate is committed to showcasing the terroir of Montalcino through traditional winemaking techniques combined with modern precision.
Il Poggione's 2019 Brunello embodies the vintage's stellar reputation, delivering exceptional intensity, exuberance, and balance. The ideal weather conditions during the growing season yielded healthy, concentrated grapes, allowing this esteemed estate to produce one of its finest wines to date. With enticing aromas of red berries, blue flowers, and leather, the 2019 vintage showcases a full-bodied profile with refined tannins and vibrant acidity. This remarkable Brunello achieves a harmonious balance between richness and finesse, poised to age beautifully for another fifteen to twenty years.
Eric Guido of Vinous summarises the wine quite nicely for us; "the 2019 finishes with tremendous length and is classically structured, as crunchy tannins resonate and violet inner florals slowly fade over a tactile coating of minerality. Il Poggione has captured the radiance of the vintage, yet this is just a baby today".
We have a very sharp price this week at €36.95 inc VAT per bottle. These are coming into the warehouse in around 3 weeks. Secure your bottles, pop them in the cellar and enjoy them in the years to come.

The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino pulls the taster close to the glass with its dark and earthy blend of crushed ashen stones, giving way to rosemary, cedar, exotic spice and a core of raspberry preserves. Enveloping and serene, this flows across the palate like pure silk, steadily building in tension as tart wild berries and orange hints give way to a sweet herbal thrust. The 2019 finishes with tremendous length and is classically structured, as crunchy tannins resonate and violet inner florals slowly fade over a tactile coating of minerality. Il Poggione has captured the radiance of the vintage, yet this is just a baby today.

The Il Poggione 2019 Brunello di Montalcino shows an evolved bouquet with aromas of dried fruit, forest floor, crushed flower and autumnal leaf. On a second nose, you get dark licorice, wet slate, cola and grilled rosemary. The tannins are powdery and dry. I recommend a medium-term drinking window as a result. You do feel the powerful 15% alcohol content in this ample 200,000-bottle release.
