Vinedo Chadwick

Vinedo ChadwickProducer from Central Valley, Chile

Viñedo Chadwick, located in Puente Alto within Chile's Maipo Valley, is a testament to the enduring legacy and visionary ambition of the Chadwick family. The winery’s origins trace back to 1945 when Alfonso Chadwick Errázuriz acquired the San José de Tocornal estate. This property, situated at the foot of the Andes Mountains, provided an ideal environment for viticulture, thanks to its well-drained, stony soils and favorable microclimate.

Alfonso Chadwick, a prominent polo player, originally used the estate for his polo pursuits. However, in the early 1990s, his son Eduardo Chadwick transformed the property’s polo field into a vineyard, recognizing its potential for producing world-class Cabernet Sauvignon. This decision marked the beginning of Viñedo Chadwick’s journey towards international acclaim (The Wine Conversation).

The winery gained global recognition during the 2004 Berlin Tasting, where its 2000 vintage was pitted against prestigious wines from Bordeaux, Tuscany, and Napa Valley. The results were astonishing, with Viñedo Chadwick taking first place, a landmark achievement that cemented its status in the fine wine world. This event highlighted Chile's potential to produce wines that could stand shoulder to shoulder with the best from Europe and the US.

The Puente Alto Terroir:

Viñedo Chadwick's terroir in Puente Alto is one of Chile's most revered, particularly for Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyards are situated 650 meters above sea level on the Maipo River's third alluvial terrace, characterized by gravel-rich soils that ensure excellent drainage. This terroir, combined with meticulous vineyard management and innovative winemaking techniques, contributes to the wine's exceptional quality and complexity.

Under the stewardship of winemaker Francisco Baettig, Viñedo Chadwick has continuously evolved, implementing modern viticultural practices and refining their winemaking approach. These efforts have paid off, with several vintages receiving perfect scores from renowned critics, further establishing Viñedo Chadwick as a benchmark for Chilean wines.
