Michele Chiarlo Winery, established in 1956, is a beacon of quality and tradition in the renowned Piedmont wine region of Italy. Michele Chiarlo founded the winery with a vision to acquire the best crus in Piedmont and produce wines that express the essence of the territory. Over the decades, Michele Chiarlo has expanded the winery, acquiring prestigious vineyards in the Langhe, Monferrato, and Gavi areas. Notable acquisitions include the famous Barolo crus of Cannubi and Cerequio, as well as prime parcels in Barbaresco and Gavi.
The winery remains a family affair, with Michele’s sons, Stefano and Alberto, joining the business in the 1990s. Stefano oversees the viticulture and winemaking, while Alberto manages sales and marketing. The family’s dedication to quality and sustainability has cemented Michele Chiarlo’s reputation as one of Piedmont’s leading wine producers.
The vineyards of Michele Chiarlo span approximately 110 hectares across some of the most prestigious areas in Piedmont, including Langhe, Monferrato, and Gavi. The diverse terroir of these regions, with their varied soils and microclimates, plays a crucial role in the character of the wines. In the Langhe, the calcareous clay marl soils of Barolo and Barbaresco provide a perfect environment for growing Nebbiolo, yielding wines with complexity, structure, and longevity. Monferrato’s vineyards, known for their sand and clay soils, produce exceptional Barbera and Nizza wines, while Gavi’s limestone-rich soils are ideal for the Cortese grape, resulting in fresh and mineral-driven white wines.
The winery’s commitment to sustainability is evident in its vineyard management practices. Michele Chiarlo follows integrated and sustainable agricultural practices, certified by VIVA Sustainable Wine. The winery closely monitors its environmental impact, from vineyard to bottle, ensuring the health of the land for future generations.
