Inglenook

InglenookProducer from California, United States

Inglenook Winery, a cornerstone of Napa Valley's winemaking history, was founded in 1879 by Finnish sea captain Gustave Niebaum. His vision was to establish a winery that could rival the great estates of Europe. Situated in Rutherford, Napa Valley, the estate spans over 1700 acres, with 235 acres of organically certified vineyards. This prestigious land, known as the Rutherford Bench, is celebrated for its ideal combination of climate, soil, and topography, making it one of the premier grape-growing regions in the world.

The history of Inglenook is marked by periods of innovation and transformation. After Niebaum's death in 1908 and the subsequent Prohibition era, the winery faced challenges. However, under the stewardship of Niebaum's grandnephew, John Daniel Jr., in the 1930s, Inglenook flourished, gaining international acclaim for its exceptional wines.

In 1975, Francis and Eleanor Coppola purchased a portion of the estate, embarking on a mission to restore its former glory. The Coppolas eventually reunited the original property and, in 2011, reacquired the Inglenook name and trademark. This move symbolized the complete restoration of the winery's legacy. Today, under the guidance of renowned winemaker Philippe Bascaules, Inglenook continues to produce wines that honor its historic roots while embracing modern winemaking techniques.

The terroir of Inglenook is distinguished by its well-drained volcanic soils and a microclimate that provides warm days and cool nights, ideal for growing high-quality Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Syrah, and Petit Verdot. These conditions enable the slow ripening of grapes, resulting in wines with complex flavors and balanced acidity.

Inglenook Rubicon

Inglenook Rubicon is the flagship wine of the historic Inglenook estate. Introduced in the 1978 vintage, Rubicon is a Bordeaux-style blend that primarily features Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by other traditional Bordeaux varietals. This wine epitomizes the unique terroir of the Rutherford Bench, showcasing the depth, complexity, and elegance characteristic of Inglenook's vineyards. The Rubicon is known for its rich bouquet of dark fruit, cedar, and spice, with a full-bodied palate and velvety tannins. Under the meticulous craftsmanship of winemaker Philippe Bascaules, Rubicon continues to be a celebrated expression of Napa Valley's winemaking heritage
