Azelia

AzeliaProducer from Piedmont, Italy

Azelia Winery, nestled in the heart of the Barolo region, is a family-run estate with a rich history dating back to 1920. Established by Cavalier Lorenzo Scavino, the winery has passed through five generations, each contributing to its reputation for producing exceptional Barolo wines. Today, Luigi Scavino and his son Lorenzo continue this tradition, focusing on quality and authenticity.

Azelia’s vineyards span 16 hectares, spread across some of Barolo’s most prestigious crus, including San Rocco, Margheria, and Bricco Fiasco. The winery places a strong emphasis on sustainable viticulture, using minimal chemical interventions and encouraging biodiversity within the vineyards. The high altitude and varied soils of the vineyards contribute to the distinctive character of Azelia's wines, which are known for their elegance, complexity, and ageing potential.

"I have said it before, but it bears repeating: Azelia remains one of the undiscovered jewels in Barolo. - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

The winemaking philosophy at Azelia combines traditional methods with modern technology. Grapes are hand-harvested and undergo rigorous selection to ensure only the highest quality fruit is used. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks, and the wines are aged in a mix of large Slavonian oak casks and French barriques. This careful balance of tradition and innovation allows Azelia to produce wines that are true to their terroir while also being approachable and refined.
