The perfect balance between Sauvignon tanginess and mid-palate Semillon plushness is simply stunning. This glittering jewel is a phenomenal example of a spectacular ‘second wine’. This ‘chip off the SHL block’ will drink early and possess the ability to age like clockwork. It is lighter and more dynamic at this stage than the Grand Vin, so this is the elite pick for at least the next five years while SHL Blanc enjoys its slumber.

The 2024 Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc is outrageously beautiful. It captures all the stylishness and personality of the Grand Vin, but at a far more accessible price. Lemon confit, marzipan, white pepper, chamomile and tangerine peel all come alive in the glass. Floral notes lift the airy, expressive finish. Wonderful.

Light green yellow, silver reflections. Delicate nuances of mango, fresh pear and some pineapple, lime zest in the background, pleasant herbal spices and a hint of vanilla. Complex, taut, white apple fruit, fresh acidity, mineral, a hint of lemon on the finish, good length, a finesse-rich food companion.

A little more structured, serious, tension, grip, still very juicy, great quality, pale green apple and white peach, anis. 30% new oak, harvest August 29 to September 13,

The 2024 Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc includes 20% Sémillon and has an open, expressive bouquet with a slight Riesling bent. Nothing wrong with that. The palate is well balanced with a straightforward entry, where a bit more Sémillon expression would be welcome. Fresh and quite spicy towards the finish. This will drink well over the next decade.
