Glaetzer Amon-Ra Shiraz is an iconic expression of Barossa Valley winemaking, embodying both the power and elegance of this celebrated Australian wine region. Crafted by acclaimed winemaker Ben Glaetzer, this wine takes its name from the ancient Egyptian sun god, Amon-Ra, symbolising light and vitality—a fitting tribute to the Shiraz grape’s ability to thrive in Barossa's sun-drenched vineyards.

Amon-Ra Shiraz is sourced from 50 to 130-year-old vines planted in Ebenezer, a sub-region renowned for its low-yielding vineyards that produce fruit of exceptional intensity and concentration. The wine is meticulously crafted, with fermentation in small open fermenters and aging in 100% French and American oak barrels, carefully selected for balance and complexity. This process results in a wine that boasts layers of rich, dark fruit flavours—blackberry, plum, and black cherry—interwoven with notes of dark chocolate, licorice, spice, and hints of toasted oak.

What sets Amon-Ra apart is its ability to combine richness with balance, showing velvety tannins and remarkable freshness that make it both approachable in its youth and a candidate for long-term cellaring. It consistently garners critical acclaim, with scores often exceeding 95 points, solidifying its status as one of Australia’s most celebrated Shiraz wines.

The Amon-Ra is a wine that's well known for its graceful aging capacity, and so, in a vintage like 2021 (long, cooler than the horrendously low-yielding and drought-addled 2020 and 2019 prior), the release is eagerly anticipated. The 2021 Amon-Ra Shiraz is complete, in a word. The purple and red berries in the mouth are fresh and supple, the flow of flavor across the tongue feels unbroken and svelte, and the aftertaste is padded by chewy, pliable tannins. This is a real pleasure, and not just now—it will be later, too. 15% alcohol, sealed under natural cork.
