2024 Mouton Rothschild with 29% discount to market - Jeb Dunnuck "wine of the vintage"

2024 Mouton Rothschild with 29% discount to market - Jeb Dunnuck "wine of the vintage"

The Mouton 2024 wines have been released!

“A less flamboyant Mouton Rothschild in keeping with the style of the vintage, the 2024 discretely gains depth towards the finish and reveals a dash of white pepper on the aftertaste. Classy, very classy.” - Neal Martin

95-97 Points - Jeb Dunnuck - “One of the wines of the vintage, if not the wine of the vintage”

Today’s release marks the most affordable Mouton Rothschild since the 2014 vintage, landing 29% under the current market average for every vintage back to 2017. Anything under €375 would be a compelling price for Mouton and at €298 In Bond per bottle, this is a standout opportunity that demands serious attention. We predict a lot of market demand on this release, so act quickly to avoid disappointment.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild is one of the most iconic names in all of Bordeaux—renowned not only for its exceptional Pauillac wines but for rewriting the rules of classification. Elevated to First Growth status in 1973, it remains the only chateau to ever achieve this. Owned by the Rothschild family since 1853, Mouton is famed for its opulent Cabernet-based wines, cutting-edge artistry, and its tradition of commissioning world-famous artists for each vintage label.

The 2024 Mouton Rothschild is a masterclass in precision and restraint—an elegant, finely wrought Pauillac that has garnered serious praise. Made from 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Merlot, it delivers layered aromas of graphite, cassis, and tobacco, with a core of dark fruit and finely grained tannins. Jeb Dunnuck called it “one of the wines of the vintage, if not the wine of the vintage,” and it’s easy to see why. This is Mouton in a quietly confident, age-worthy mode.

mouton 2024 price comparison

There’s been a clear trend of price reductions in the 2024 En Primeur campaign, particularly among the top estates—which has been warmly welcomed. Mouton is no exception, releasing at one of its most accessible price points in recent memory.

Alongside the Grand Vin, we’re also offering Le Petit Mouton 2024, the estate’s highly regarded second wine. Jane Anson described the wine as having a “sexy Petit Mouton kick” bringing a refined and stylish Pauillac with classic Cabernet charm. With 67% Cabernet Sauvignon and 26% Merlot, it delivers depth, poise, and a savoury edge. A serious, structured second wine that will age gracefully.

Quantities are limited and demand is, as always, high. A portion is available now on our website on a first-come, first-served basis. This shows plenty of drive with dusty and creamy tannins that run the length of the wine and builds at the end. It’s medium-bodied showing a focus and energy. Dark currants and flowers flavor. This really has length and it has the depth to improve with age. 93% cabernet sauvignon and 7% merlot.

One of the wines of the vintage, if not the wine of the vintage, the 2024 Château Mouton Rothschild checks in as a blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Merlot, hitting 12.9% alcohol and a pH of 3.71, that's resting in 100% new barrels. It sports a dense purple hue as well as absolutely rocking aromatics of blackcurrants, freshly sharpened pencils, graphite, and smoked tobacco. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has a layered, opulent mouthfeel, velvety tannins, ample mid-palate depth, and a great finish. It's an incredible achievement in the vintage that will need just 4-6 years of bottle age and have a broad, lengthy drinking window. Hats off to technical director Jean-Emmanuel Danjoy and the entire Mouton team.

94-96 Points | Vinous - Neal Martin

The 2024 Mouton Rothschild, which has a little more Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend, was picked between September 23 and October 5 and aged for 18 months in 100% new oak. This has an understated bouquet with blackberry, cedar and graphite scents that take their time to unfold. The nose possesses very fine delineation though the oak is a little more prominent at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied and quite linear in style with fine tannins. A less flamboyant Mouton Rothschild in keeping with the style of the vintage, the 2024 discretely gains depth towards the finish and reveals a dash of white pepper on the aftertaste. Classy, very classy.

93-95 Points | Vinous - Antonio Galloni

The 2024 Mouton Rothschild is embryonic. Dark, powerful and imposing, the 2024 is deeply intriguing, but also a wine that is going to need time to be at its best. Today, the tannins feel a bit brooding, the wine's mid-weight structure notwithstanding. The 100% new oak needs to integrate, but this is a barrel sample.

The Fine Wine Library:

A slightly different take on the wine that is usually for the hedonists. This vintage is one of the most delicate and pure vintages of Mouton we have tried. The wine has a quiet confidence about it. On the nose it’s classic; damson, blackberry, cassis, graphite and the palate is fine, tightly packed in terms of structure with a creamy mouth feel. It keeps you coming back for more to explore it’s complexities. It’s only a baby and should age gracefully. Great tension overall.

Le Petit Mouton 2024

€127.50 In Bond per bottle

95-96 Points | James Suckling

Excellent depth. Though there is not much density, this exhibits outstanding cabernet character with paprika, tapenade, dark tobacco and black fruit. Medium- to full-bodied with fine-etched tannins. Great poise and elegance. Light on its feet but doesn’t need any more richness. 67% cabernet sauvignon, 26% merlot, 5% cabernet franc and 2% petit verdot.

93 Points | Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux

Here you get that sexy Petit Mouton kick, defined by Cabernet, less exuberant profile than in recent years and yet great texture and lift, supple blackberry fruits, cocoa bean lacing. Very much succeeding in the vintage without compromising the heart of the estate signature. Jean-Emmanuel Danjoy director. Harvest 23 September to 5 October. 3.62 pH. 50% new oak.

91-93 Points | Vinous - Neal Martin

The 2023 Le Petit-Mouton is being matured in 50% new oak for a planned 18 months. It has an attractive, understated bouquet with pencil shavings and cedar-tinged black fruit—not as complex as the 2022, but refined. Two weeks later the nose demonstrates just a soupçon more éclat [brightness]. The palate is medium-bodied and harmonious with crisp acidity on the entry, dashes of spice and black pepper on the back-palate and moderate length on the linear finish. Give this three or four years in bottle. Drinking Window: 2029 - 2045

91-93 Points | Jeb Dunnuck

Ripe blackcurrants, scorched earth, graphite, and spicy notes all define the 2024 Le Petit Mouton De Mouton Rothschild. Medium-bodied on the palate, it has remarkable purity, fine tannins, and a great finish. It's a charming, layered, certainly outstanding, Pauillac in the making.
