Musar 2018 Release - A Lebanon Icon

Musar 2018 Release - A Lebanon Icon

Lebanon’s most iconic winery producing a wine and style that’s completely its own.

Chateau Musar, Lebanon’s most iconic winery, was founded in 1930 by Gaston Hochar in the Bekaa Valley. Renowned for its unique blend of Bordeaux-inspired winemaking and Mediterranean terroir, Musar produces wines of extraordinary character and complexity. Under Serge Hochar’s leadership, it gained international acclaim, blending Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, and Carignan to create age-worthy, distinctive wines. Despite challenges, including Lebanon’s civil war, Musar remains a symbol of resilience and artistry, celebrated for its commitment to tradition and innovation.

Chateau Musar 2018 is a compelling expression of the winery’s iconic style, showcasing the vibrancy and complexity of the Bekaa Valley terroir. In 2018 they used an equal blend of all three grapes; Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, and Carignan. Rich and concentrated, the 2018 vintage is starting to show it’s swagger with layers of red and black fruits, leather, earthy spices, and subtle floral notes coming through. Stylistically, we’d describe it as a more rustic left-bank Bordeaux.

Aged in oak and bottled without filtration, this wine combines structure and finesse, making it approachable now but with the potential to evolve beautifully for decades. Musar 2018 continues the estate’s tradition of crafting distinctive, age-worthy wines.

This is not a wine that you buy for its score but for its unique style and personality. For those who have not tried Lebanon’s most famous winery, don’t hesitate to give this a go.
