6 x 100 Pointed Margaux 2019 - "a legendary wine in the years to come"

Six perfect 100 Pointed scores
"buy this wine, it will be a legendary wine in the years to come"
Château Margaux is one of Bordeaux's most iconic estates, with a rich history dating back to the 12th century. Located in the Margaux appellation, it has been classified as a First Growth since the 1855 classification. The 2019 vintage in Bordeaux was marked by extremes, but produced wines of exceptional balance, structure, and ageing potential.
This vintage has received universal acclaim, with several critics awarding it a perfect 100 points. The Wine Advocate has only given this score to four Margaux vintages, and the 2019 stands among them. It even surpassed notable vintages such as 2010, 2009, 2005, 2000, and the legendary 1982.
On this one, we'll let the tasting notes and scores do the talking for us, but we must highlight the highly competitive price. This is a wine you won't regret adding to your cellar.
Château Margaux 2019
100 Points | Wine Advocate
Is the 2019 Château Margaux the wine of the vintage? A strong case in its favor could certainly be made. Soaring from the glass with aromas of blackberries, raspberries, rose petals, violets, pencil shavings and vine smoke, it's full-bodied, layered and sensual, with a strikingly vibrant core of fruit that's framed by ripe, powdery tannins and bright acids, concluding with a penetrating, mouthwateringly saline finish of almost interminable duration. Complex, elegant and utterly compelling, this is a brilliant Bordeaux that anyone with the requisite disposable income is going to want to own.

Another utterly heavenly wine from this estate is the 2019 Château Margaux, a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot coming from a selection of just 37% of the total production. Deep purple, with an incredible array of ripe currants, blueberries, sweet tobacco, sandalwood, and toasted spices, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a seamless, powerful, yet incredibly sexy mouthfeel, polished tannins, and a great, great finish. As I wrote in the barrel review, it reminds me slightly of the 2016, but has a touch more sun-kissed profile. It already offers incredible pleasure yet deserves 4-6 years of bottle age and will blow you away any time over the coming 40+ years.

The 2019 Chateau Margaux is a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot, with the first wine representing 37% of the harvest. Deep purple-black colored, it needs considerable coaxing to release scents of plum preserves, blueberry compote, and ripe blackcurrants, leading to nuances of violets, cedar chest, pencil shavings, wood smoke, and wet slate with a waft of black truffles. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is simply electric, with a firework display of mineral earth and black fruits and super-fine, firm, tannins, plus incredible tension, finishing with epic length and depth. "I'm surprised by the body," commented winemaker Philippe Bascaules as we tasted together. "During primeurs, the 2019 was full of charm. Now it is more concentrated, more powerful." Indeed.

A wine that you sink into, drink in the aromatics before taking a sip. You can sense the velvety texture from the first moment. There is so much density here, and yet each tannin plays its part with skill, holding the perfumed black and blue fruits in place without restricting their expression. A signature Château Margaux, with so many different elements lending momentum and energy, and a feeling of effortless balance. 37% of total production, 100% new oak. Loved En Primeur, but this is an upscore.

Amazing aromas of crushed stones and wet soil with fresh mushrooms, then going on to violets and other flowers. Dark fruit, too. Full-bodied, yet agile and fine, with a linear flow of tannins that run through the center of palate. The finesse of the tannins is exceptional, like raw silk and changing all the time. Cool and energetic, yet reserved. Zen-like. 37% of the production and 90% cabernet sauvignon, 7% merlot, 2% cabernet franc and 1% petit verdot. So well balanced that you can drink it now, but this is one to leave for a decade and more. Ethereal.

This could be the most sensual vintage of Chateau Margaux ever produced. The palate is pure silk and velvet with an incredible sense of purity and refinement. Utterly seamless, the wine glides over your palate builds, lingers, and expands for well over 60 seconds. If you have ample disposable income, buy this wine, it will be a legendary wine in the years to come.
