The Wine Advocate’s in-bottle report confirms 2023 as a compelling, consumer-friendly Bordeaux vintage, combining the depth of a warm year with the freshness and aromatics of a cooler one. As William Kelley and Yohan Castaing note, “Revisiting the 2023s from bottle confirmed those impressions. The vast majority of wines met or surpassed the expectations we formed in April 2024. Indeed, tasting them was a real pleasure.”
The growing season was far from straightforward, with mildew pressure and uneven conditions demanding careful vineyard management and precise decision making. Those who succeeded were rewarded with wines that reflect both the vintage and their terroir, with greater clarity, balance and definition.
As they conclude, “By retaining both acidity and aromatic clarity, the 2023 growing season has yielded wines of good poise and delineation, with the best examples approaching a compelling level of completeness.”
