Grosset Polish Hill Riesling 2021 Release

Grosset Polish Hill Riesling 2021 Release

"Grosset Polish Hill is always a supremely elegant, powerful wine with a proven track record of graceful ageing in the cellar, and a release such as this is the foundation upon which that reputation is built." - Halliday Wine Companion

The Grosset Polish Hill Riesling 2021 is a quintessential expression of Australian Riesling, renowned for its purity, precision, and longevity. Sourced from the Polish Hill vineyard in the Clare Valley, this wine benefits from the unique terroir of the region. The vineyard's slate and shale soils, combined with the cool-climate conditions, contribute to the wine's distinctive minerality and vibrant acidity.

Jeffrey Grosset’s meticulous attention to detail in the vineyard and winery is evident in this release, resulting in a wine that is both elegant and powerful. We tasted a vertical of older Polish Hill vintages spanning 20 years, and it was evident just how well Grosset’s wines age. The remarkable freshness and well-integrated acidity in these wines can be attributed to Jeffrey Grosset’s meticulous biodynamic vineyard practices. The 2021 release will drink to 2040 if not further.

On the nose, the 2021 Polish Hill Riesling offers an enticing bouquet of lime zest, white flowers, and a hint of wet slate. The palate is equally compelling, with a laser-like focus showcasing citrus and green apple, intertwined with mineral notes and a steely backbone. The wine's acidity is vibrant and racy, providing a refreshing counterbalance to the concentrated fruit flavours.

This Riesling is a testament to Grosset's commitment to quality and his deep understanding of the Clare Valley terroir, making it a must-have for lovers of fine Riesling.

97 Points | Halliday Wine Companion

Grosset Polish Hill is always a supremely elegant, powerful wine with a proven track record of graceful ageing in the cellar, and a release such as this is the foundation upon which that reputation is built. This is concentrated, structured and long, with jasmine tea, saffron, lemon pith, aniseed, fennel flower, green apple skins and white pepper - all of which colour in the background for the lime flesh and Clare volume of flavour. Brilliant. Drink it now or cellar it as you normally would - it is sensational.

98 Points | James Suckling

An exceptional vintage for this wine, with such intense aromas of lime and sweet flowers, as well as hints of white nectarine and wet stone in the background. The palate has density and sleekly refined shape that drives so long. Lime juice throughout, and some almost pithy density builds into the finish, supported by driving acidity. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but best from 2026 and a number of years after that. Screw cap.
