Hubert Lamy 2015 Special

Hubert Lamy 2015 Special
Today I have something very special that comes as a big personal recommendation as one of my favourite white Burgundy producers. These Hubert Lamy 1er Cru 2015 back vintages are drinking beautifully now and will continue to do so through 2030 and even 2040. They are also very competitively priced.

The Hubert Lamy winery has played a pivotal role in bringing the Saint-Aubin region of Burgundy into the spotlight. Founded in 1973 by Hubert Lamy, the estate is now expertly managed by his son Olivier Lamy, who has been pivotal in putting the estate on the fine wine map. Through meticulous vineyard management and innovative winemaking practices, Olivier Lamy has transformed Saint-Aubin from a relatively obscure appellation into one recognized for producing some of the finest white wines in Burgundy.

"Sometimes I contemplate what I think might be the easiest way to make enemies in Burgundy: A Michelin Guide-style ranking, out of three stars, of the region's best domaines. Olivier Lamy would be one of three white wine producers in the Côte de Beaune to whom I would unquestionably award three stars. " William Kelley, Wine Advocate

Saint-Aubin, nestled in the heart of Burgundy, benefits from an exceptional terroir that is ideally suited for Chardonnay. The vineyards are characterized by their limestone-rich soils, which impart a distinct minerality and finesse to the wines. The region's hilly terrain provides excellent drainage and exposure, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and develop complex flavours. The cool climate of Saint-Aubin further contributes to the freshness and vibrancy of the wines, making them stand out among Burgundy’s offerings.

At Hubert Lamy, winemaking begins in the vineyard with a strong emphasis on sustainable practices. Olivier Lamy employs meticulous viticultural techniques, including high-density planting, to encourage competition among the vines and enhance the quality of the grapes. His winemaking style emphasizes the fresh and mineral side of the wines, using very little new wood. Most of the wines are aged in 600-litre demi-muids rather than the classic 225-litre Burgundy barrels. This approach ensures that the wines maintain a laser-like purity and intensity.

The En Remilly vineyard is celebrated for producing wines with intense minerality and well-integrated acidity. In contrast, La Chateniere is known for its clay-limestone soils, which impart richness and structure. Lamy's rendition, crafted from old vines, adds complexity and depth to the wines. The balance between concentration and finesse showcases the true expression of Saint-Aubin's terroir. Both wines offered today are among the highest-scoring of the vintage, each receiving 93 points from the Wine Advocate.

Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin Premier Cru En Remilly 2015

93 Points | Wine Advocate, William Kelley
The 2015 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly is excellent, offering up a pure and unadorned bouquet of crisp green apples, white flowers and crushed chalk that's classic Lamy. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, stony and saline, with bright, tangy acids and a pure, mineral finish. Right now, it's tight-knit and reserved, so several years' patience is advised. Drink 2020 - 2030

Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin Premier Cru La Chateniere Vieilles Vignes 2015

93 Points | Wine Advocate, William Kelley
The 2015 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Clos de la Chatenière is showing well, unwinding in the glass with notes of pear, clear honey, white flowers, telltale toasted bread and wet stones. Medium to full-bodied, layered and racy, with terrific cut and concentration, its vibrant, mineral profile belies stereotypes of this misunderstood vintage. Drink 2021 - 2040
