Talenti is one of the best names from the village of Sant'Angelo in Colle in Brunello and in terms of style comes in as a modern traditionalist. The story began in the 1950s when Pierluigi Talenti moved from Romagna to Montalcino and fell in love with its rolling hills and sunny vineyards. After a few years, he acquired the estate and dedicated himself to researching Sangiovese clones, aiming to elevate the quality of his wines. Over the years, Pierluigi's passion and dedication brought the winery to prominence, making it a key player in the Brunello di Montalcino landscape.
Today, the winery is managed by Pierluigi's grandson, Riccardo Talenti, who continues the legacy with the same passion and respect for tradition. Riccardo has introduced modern techniques and sustainable practices, ensuring the winery remains at the forefront of quality winemaking while honoring its historical roots.
Talenti's vineyards are spread across eleven different plots, each with unique altitudes, exposures, and soil compositions. This diversity allows the winery to produce complex and profound wines that truly reflect the character of Montalcino. The estate spans 40 hectares, with 22 hectares dedicated to vineyards and the rest to olive groves and orchards. The primary grape variety grown is Sangiovese, which thrives in the calcareous clay soils and benefits from the region's continental climate with significant diurnal temperature variations.
The vineyards are located at elevations between 200 and 400 meters above sea level, providing optimal conditions for growing high-quality grapes. The careful management of the vineyards, coupled with the unique terroir, results in wines with great character, depth, and aging potential.
Talenti Winery is known for its blend of tradition and innovation. In the cellar, traditional winemaking techniques are complemented by modern research and technology. The wines undergo fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures, and maturation occurs in large Slavonian and Allier oak barrels, which help develop the wine's complexity and character. This careful balance of old and new methods ensures that Talenti wines maintain their traditional roots while benefiting from modern advancements in winemaking.
