Louis Roederer, established in 1776, stands as one of Champagne’s most prestigious and innovative houses. Known for its commitment to quality and craftsmanship, Louis Roederer has been producing some of the world’s finest sparkling wines for over two centuries. The estate’s dedication to excellence and its rich history have solidified its reputation as a leading name in Champagne.
Founded by Louis Roederer in 1776, the estate quickly gained recognition for its exceptional Champagne. Louis Roederer’s legacy was further enhanced when his descendants, particularly his great-grandson, Louis Roederer II, expanded the estate and introduced innovative techniques that contributed to its enduring success. The house has always been known for its commitment to quality, maintaining ownership of its vineyards and focusing on producing Champagne that reflects its unique terroir.
Louis Roederer’s historic cellars, located in Reims, extend over 7 kilometers and provide ideal conditions for ageing Champagne. These cellars are essential to the development of the house’s wines, allowing them to mature gracefully and develop their signature complexity.
Louis Roederer’s vineyards cover approximately 240 hectares, primarily in the Champagne region’s Grand Cru and Premier Cru villages. The estate focuses on the classic Champagne varietals: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. The diverse terroir, with its chalky soils and temperate climate, provides an ideal environment for cultivating these grapes.
The winemaking process at Louis Roederer combines traditional methods with modern techniques. The estate uses only the finest grapes, which are carefully pressed and fermented in stainless steel and oak tanks. The Champagne is then aged in the estate’s historic cellars, where it develops its characteristic depth and complexity.
One of the most prestigious cuvées in Champagne, Cristal is a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, sourced from the estate’s best vineyards. It offers complex aromas of ripe fruit, honey, and toasted almonds. The palate is full-bodied and rich, with layers of flavour and a long, elegant finish. Cristal is celebrated for its depth, complexity, and exceptional ageing potential.
The Louis Roederer Collection series, replacing the iconic Brut Premier, introduces individually labelled releases, akin to Krug’s Edition system. For example, Collection 243, representing the 2018 vintage, is the second in this series, offering a refined blend that showcases the house’s commitment to innovation and quality, with each release reflecting its unique character and craftsmanship.
Produced only in exceptional years, the Vintage cuvée is a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir selected from the estate’s top vineyards. It offers complex aromas of ripe fruit, nuts, and honey. The palate is rich and structured, with a creamy texture and a long, elegant finish. The Vintage Champagne is known for its depth, complexity, and ageing potential.
Crafted exclusively from Chardonnay grapes, Blanc de Blancs is a refined expression of the estate’s commitment to quality. It has a pale golden colour and aromas of citrus, white flowers, and brioche. The palate is crisp and elegant, with a fine mousse and a mineral finish. This Champagne is known for its purity and finesse.
