Nestled in the rolling hills of Panzano in Chianti, Le Cinciole is a boutique winery that epitomizes the soul of the Chianti Classico region. Established in the early 1990s by Luca Orsini and Valeria Viganò, the estate is a labour of love, rooted in a deep respect for tradition, the environment, and the unique terroir of Tuscany. The name "Le Cinciole" harks back to the area’s Etruscan origins, meaning “place of the quintessence,” a fitting tribute to the essence of its wines.
Spread across 30 hectares, of which 16 are under vine, Le Cinciole sits at an altitude of 400-450 metres above sea level. This elevation, combined with the region’s limestone-rich galestro soils and the diurnal temperature variations, creates the perfect conditions for producing wines of finesse, elegance, and vibrant acidity. The estate primarily cultivates Sangiovese, the noble grape that defines Chianti Classico, alongside smaller parcels of Canaiolo, Colorino, and international varieties like Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
From the outset, Luca and Valeria embraced sustainable practices, transitioning to organic farming in 2000 and achieving certification shortly thereafter. Their philosophy extends beyond organic methods; they are committed to preserving biodiversity and fostering a balanced ecosystem in their vineyards. Natural cover crops, minimal intervention, and meticulous vineyard care underscore their dedication to crafting wines that reflect the authenticity of their terroir.
Le Cinciole’s approach in the cellar mirrors its respect for nature. Fermentation occurs with indigenous yeasts, ensuring the character of the grapes shines through without manipulation. The use of concrete vats and large oak casks allows the wines to age gracefully, with minimal influence from new wood. This minimalist ethos results in wines that are pure, expressive, and deeply connected to their origins.
The winery’s portfolio is a testament to the versatility and depth of Sangiovese. The flagship Chianti Classico embodies the essence of the appellation, offering bright red fruit, fine tannins, and a savoury undertone. The Riserva, crafted from the estate’s finest parcels, is more structured and age-worthy, showcasing layers of complexity and a profound sense of place. Camalaione, their Super Tuscan blend, combines Sangiovese with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, delivering a modern yet balanced expression of Tuscan winemaking.
Le Cinciole’s wines have garnered critical acclaim for their precision, elegance, and fidelity to the land. The estate’s commitment to quality and sustainability has made it a benchmark for Chianti Classico, resonating with a new generation of wine enthusiasts who value authenticity and craftsmanship.
What sets Le Cinciole apart is its unwavering focus on sustainability and its ability to honour tradition while innovating. Luca and Valeria’s passion shines through in every bottle, making their wines a must-try for anyone seeking the true essence of Chianti.
For those lucky enough to visit, the winery offers breathtaking views, intimate tastings, and a chance to immerse oneself in the timeless beauty of Tuscany. Le Cinciole is not just a winery—it’s a celebration of Chianti’s enduring legacy.
