Troplong Mondot 2024 - A standout on the right bank

Troplong Mondot 2024 - A standout on the right bank

2024 Troplong Mondot Released!

Troplong Mondot is one of the most visually striking and dramatically situated estates in Saint-Émilion, perched high on the limestone plateau with commanding views of the region. A Premier Grand Cru Classé, it has undergone a stylistic transformation in recent years under the direction of Aymeric de Gironde. Once known for power and density, today’s Troplong is all about precision, finesse, and terroir expression—producing vibrant, textural wines that seamlessly balance richness with elegance and remarkable ageing potential.

Troplong Mondot 2024 is one of the standout Right Bank wines of the vintage—vibrant, refined, and full of layered complexity. A blend of 85% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, it delivers pure red and black berry fruit, floral lift, minerality, and fine-grained tannins. With no chaptalisation and élevage in new oak and foudre, it balances natural density with remarkable freshness and finesse. Elegant, expressive, and deeply satisfying, this is Troplong at its finest. The critics have been very complimentary this year:

95-97 Points - The Wine Independent - “Seriously good!”

95-97 Points - Vinous - Antonio Galloni - “The 2024 Troplong Mondot is a total stunner”

96 Points - Decanter - “Amazing aromatics, so complex. […] This has excellent intensity. They achieved full ripeness with natural density but a finessed touch too. A delicious wine that puts a smile on your face but still multifaceted”

94-96 Points Jeb Dunnuck - “It's one of the standouts in the vintage on the right bank”

95 Points - Jane Anson - “No chaptilisation, because this is a location with natural density and you really see it here. Brilliantly silky, this has depth and yet is savoury, touch of whole cluster winemaking”

Coming in at a price of €84* In Bond per bottle, a discount of -20% compared to the 2023 vintage, Troplong comes warmly recommended.

95-97 Points | The Wine Independent

Deep garnet-purple colored. Needs a lot of shaking to wake up wonderfully pure notes of red currant jelly, fresh blackberries, and licorice, plus hints of cardamom, mint tea, and lilacs. The light to medium-bodied palate shimmers with vibrant red and black berry flavors, supported by fine-grained tannins and fantastic tension, finishing long and minerally. Seriously good!

95-97 Points | Vinous - Antonio Galloni

The 2024 Troplong Mondot is a total stunner. As has been the case for some years now, the Grand Vin is blended before being barreled down, which means at the time of tasting en primeur, the wine has seen less wood than the vast majority of its peers. That lends this wine a certain raw energy that is impossible to miss. The purity and intensity of the flavors are simply remarkable. Troplong Mondot is one of the standouts of 2024. Even in this vintage, Troplong Mondot possesses remarkable textural presence, but that richness is matched by notable freshness and linear drive. It was deeply impressive on the two occasions I tasted it. Élevage is planned to be 55% in new oak, 26% in 20HL barrels and 19% in once-used barrels.

96 Points | Decanter, Georgina Hindle

Super fragrant on the nose, ripe blackcurrant, some dried herbs, so much florality and perfumed fruit. Amazing aromatics, so complex. Rosehip, wild strawberries, red cherries, violets, milk chocolate and salty stones. Succulent and so supple, a juicy core with touches of sweetness and density. I also love the minerality that you get on the mid palate after a burst of bright red fruit. Almost plump then smoothes out with a long-lasting flavour. Ends with a moreish salivating aspect of mint, liquorice and wet stones. Tannins are so polished. This has excellent intensity. They achieved full ripeness with natural density but a finessed touch too. A delicious wine that puts a smile on your face but still multifaceted. Ageing 26% foudre, 55% new oak, the rest one year old barrels.

94-96 Points | Jeb Dunnuck

The Grand Vin 2024 Château Troplong Mondot is deeper hued than the Mondot and is based on 85% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, aging in 55% new wood with portions in foudre and used barrels. It's a classic wine from this Château today that shows the focus on purity, precision, and elegance without being dilute or mid-weight. Black raspberries, spring flowers, spicy wood, and graphite all define the aromatics, and it's medium-bodied, has a pure, seamless, elegant mouthfeel, ultra-fine tannins, and a great finish. It's one of the standouts in the vintage on the right bank.
