Saint-Juliens most reliable addresses - Leoville & Langoa Barton 2024

Leoville & Langoa Barton 2024
“One of the wines in the vintage with definition and ageing ability, and retains clear Léoville Barton character” - Jane Anson
Known for their fairness and consistency, Léoville Barton produces some of the most respected wines in Saint-Julien, all from a famously humble estate.
Classified as a Second Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, just behind icons like Mouton, Lafite, and Haut-Brion, Léoville Barton has earned an exceptional reputation. Loved by wine enthusiasts worldwide, the estate is celebrated for maintaining consistent pricing while delivering top-quality wines. Often referred to as a "Super Second," it stands as one of the most sought-after wineries in its category.
Today, we’re pleased to offer the 2024 En Primeur releases of both Léoville Barton and its sibling estate, Langoa Barton—two of Saint-Julien’s most reliable and respected names. Owned by the Barton family for over two centuries, these wines are benchmarks of classic claret, known for their consistency, longevity, and exceptional value. This year’s releases are once again standout expressions of their respective styles.
Leoville Barton:
The 2024 Léoville Barton is a poised and classically built Saint-Julien with refinement at its core. Dominated by 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, it showcases cassis, plum, violet and graphite in a structured yet graceful frame. Critics highlight its elegance and ageing potential, with Jane Anson calling it “One of the wines in the vintage with definition and ageing ability, and retains clear Léoville Barton character”. A true Barton—understated but confident, pure and precise, and built to evolve beautifully over the next two decades.
Langoa Barton:
The 2024 Langoa Barton is a charming, finely crafted Saint-Julien with floral lift and bright red fruit. A blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc, it offers aromas of peony, cherry and lilac, layered with tobacco and graphite. Medium-bodied and elegant, with fresh acidity and polished tannins, it’s a graceful wine that captures the Barton signature with approachability and poise—making it a smart, earlier-drinking complement to its more powerful sibling.
When it comes to pricing, Léoville Barton and Langoa have been models of consistency over the past decade, rarely increasing even in top vintages. That’s why this year’s reductions—14% for Léoville and 10% for Langoa—stand out as fair and compelling, especially given the impressive quality of the 2024 wines.

A classic Bordeaux that shows finesse and poise. This is understated, with a medium body, lovely texture and acidity, freshness and brightness. It shows firm tannins that aren't chewy. Very long and honest, with pure fruit. 92% cabernet sauvignon, 6% merlot and 2% cabernet franc.
93-95 Points | Vinous - Antonio Galloni
The 2024 Léoville Barton is a very beautiful wine. Black cherry, plum, lavender, new leather, graphite, crushed rocks, mocha and spice all meld together. A wine of classical build, Léoville Barton is also wonderfully deep and expressive. Today, all of its energy is directed inwards, but there is a lot of wine here. I can't wait to taste this from bottle. Tasted two times. Drinking Window: 2034 - 2049

Stands out for the elongated and supple shape and texture of the tannins, builds complexity over the palate and this is well structured, with elegant, finessed, savoury but carefully extracted cassis and bilberry fruits, with cocoa bean and cigar. One of the wines in the vintage with definition and ageing ability, and retains clear Léoville Barton character. Harvest 24 September to 5 October. 60% new oak for ageing.

In 2021 Leoville-Barton started operating out of their new winery - more vats giving the ability to ferment smaller parcels = more precision and fruit purity in the wines. The 2024 wine has great weight and structure behind it. It’s a wine that will definitely age. Dark fruit, cassis, rose petal and mineral undertones. Not flashy wines but they never have been. We loved the wine overall and it shows that this is one of the most reliable addresses in Saint-Julien.

A firm and refined red with blackcurrant and mineral character. Medium-bodied, chewy and polished, suggesting well-selected grapes for the vintage. Well done.

The 2024 Langoa Barton is showing beautifully, wafting from the glass with aromas of sweet blackberries and plums mingled with notions of licorice, pencil shavings and lilac. Medium to full-bodied, with lively acids and good depth and density, it's pure and refined. This is a blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc, picked between 24 September and 5 October.
93 Points | Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux
Floral peony and lilac aromatics on the Langoa, and the fruit character keeps things finessed and soft - think red cherry, cherry pit, tobacco, black tea, thoroughly charming, just a little short on the finished compared to the exceptional 2022 or 2023 vintages. The difference in the blends between the two Barton St Julien wines is significant this year, with just over 50% here of Cabernet Sauvignon compared to over 90% in Léoville. Harvest 24 September to 5 October. 60% new oak, 30hl/h yield.

The 2024 Langoa-Barton is such a pretty wine. Floral and bright, with lovely mid-weight structure, Langoa is a total charmer. Rose petal, crushed red berry fruit, spice, orange peel and mint are beautifully lifted. Bright saline undertones extend the finish. The 2024 is a promising Langoa. Tasted two times.
