Classy Domaine de Chevalier 2024

2024 Domaine de Chevalier Releases!
95-97 Points - Antonio Galloni -“The 2024 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc has it all. Powerful yet elegant, deep yet light on its feet, the 2024 is a wine of contrasts and harmony that will thrill readers for many years to come. Nothing in particular stands out, rather it is the wine's balance that carries the day. Chamomile, crushed flowers, chalk and a hint of new oak run through a core of citrus-tinged fruit. The long, sustained finish is remarkable. Superb”
Domaine de Chevalier is one of Pessac-Léognan’s true jewels—an estate that consistently overdelivers in both red and white. Hidden away in a forested enclave near Léognan, its gravelly soils and cooler microclimate create wines of finesse, freshness and complexity. Under the stewardship of Olivier Bernard since 1983, the domaine has earned a stellar reputation for its elegant, age-worthy reds and benchmark dry whites, crafted with precision, balance and a deep respect for tradition and terroir.
Today’s En Primeur releases sees both the Rouge and Blanc come to market. Overall Pessac whites have been some of the best in 2024 and Domaine de Chevallier does not buck this trend.
Domaine de Chevalier Blanc 2024
A perennial benchmark among Bordeaux whites, the 2024 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc is electric. A blend of 75% Sauvignon Blanc and 25% Semillon, it delivers lifted aromatics of jasmine, citrus peel, lemongrass, and stone. The palate is bright, bone-dry, and tightly wound, with layers of grapefruit, chalk and orchard fruit leading to a long, mineral finish. It’s not about sheer power, but purity and precision. This is a wine of depth and verve, built to age beautifully.
Domaine de Chevalier Rouge 2024
The 2024 red from Domaine de Chevalier is a beautifully poised and aromatic Pessac-Léognan, offering floral lift, cassis, and slatey minerality. Crafted from 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, it balances juicy freshness with firm yet polished tannins. While the wine feels reserved for now, critics expect it to build weight during élevage. Elegant, subtle, and classically styled, this vintage favours finesse over power—debonair and quietly confident, with ageing potential that will reward patience.
With great release prices down -29% on the red and high praise from the wine critics, Domaine de Chevalier is a winner in 2024. Don’t miss these releases.

Toned and honed, DdC is a little shy on the nose, and the finish is reluctant to express itself fully, but I expect it to put on weight around the midriff during its élévage, resulting in a cool, calm wine with a quizzical outlook and a cultured and sleek chassis. This enigma of a wine never disappoints, so pop back in six years, and the elements will have found their equilibrium. I don’t expect this will be a long-lived DdC, but it will be ever so debonair when it straightens its jacket and sets off down the catwalk!

Fine cocoa powder, cedar, minerals, currants and blue fruit. Juicy and medium- to full-bodied with fresh, firm tannins and a long, crunchy finish. It lingers well. 65% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot and 5% petit verdot.

The 2024 Domaine de Chevalier is soft, fruity and relatively simple, given its typical personality. Plum, black cherry, licorice, chocolate and sweet oak are pushed forward in this open-knit, easygoing Pessac-Léognan. There may be more here than meets the eye. We will see. Today, the 2024 is on the light side. Tasted two times.

The 2024 Domaine de Chevalier was cropped at 48 hl/ha between September 20 and October 8. This is almost Burgundian in style, with a fragrant bouquet revealing pure blueberry and blackcurrant aromas alongside crushed violet and iris flower scents emerging with aeration. It is very comely and alluring. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins. It's very harmonious and already in this prenatal stage, seductive. With finely chiseled tannins and more mineralité compared to the L'Esprit, this seems to glide on the finish. Just a lovely Pessac-Léognan for the vintage, though this year it must accept the silver medal as Olivier Bernard's white takes the gold.

Beautiful perfumed aromas of fine cream, meringue, ripe guava and spices. Bright and acid-driven with medium to full body and a long, scented finish. Bone-dry and textured. Not a year of huge concentration, but a lot of freshness, length and energy make this a wine to consider seriously. 75% sauvignon blanc and 25% semillon.

After a little shaking, notes of fresh pears, lemon pie, and lime blossoms slowly emerge from the glass, leading to touches of coriander seed and wet pebbles. The light-bodied palate is tightly wound and intense with mineral and citrus layers giving way to a long, chalky finish. Classic great, age-worthy DDC Blanc!

There is a hint of lemongrass and jasmine over the classic agrume core, bringing a rare sense of exoticism to this often-classical wine. I like it very much, and a second tasting revealed brief moments of honeysuckle, which I expect will multiply with time. The gulf between the great dry whites and the all-so-rans is as wide as it is with the red wines, and yet something is genuinely compelling about the best whites, which is seriously tempting me over from Burgundy to Bordeaux this year!
