On parr with the legendary 2002 - Dom Perignon Rose 2009

“The 2009 Dom Pérignon Rosé marks a return to a richer style of Rosé following the more ethereal 2008 Rosé. Sweet red cherry, blood orange, spice and pomegranate all build in a creamy, sensual DP Rosé that hits all the right spots.” - Antonio Galloni
Dom Perignon’s reputation for crafting world-class Champagne is unmatched, with its meticulous dedication to vintage releases creating wines of unique character and depth. As a captivating counterpart to the house’s traditional blanc, the Dom Perignon Rose exemplifies their masterful use of Pinot Noir, producing an expressive and complex rose Champagne.
The 2009 Champagne vintage was defined by consistent sunshine and ideal harvest conditions, providing Pinot Noir grapes of exceptional maturity and resulting in a wine with striking depth and intensity. Typically released after the blanc, the Dom Perignon Rose 2009 spent an impressive 13 years on the lees before being disgorged in March 2022. The blend is 56% Pinot Noir and 44% Chardonnay, and cellar master Vincent Chaperon described the wine as “generous and soft.” This rose showcases an extraordinary balance between fruit, structure, and freshness, capturing the essence of a warm, generous growing season.
The 2009 Dom Perignon Rose mirrors celebrated vintages like 1996 and 2002 in its robustness and aging potential. Initially, the wine presents an exuberant burst of fruit and spice, evolving to reveal secondary notes of dried rose petals, ginger, and smoky nuances with time in the cellar.
Vinous scored the wine 98 points, placing it on par with the highly esteemed 2002 vintage and outscoring the 2008 by one point. Antonio Galloni even noted that he “preferred it to the 2008, which was also part of this tasting.”
With a drinking window spanning over the next decade, the Dom Perignon Rose 2009 is delicious now but can also age gracefully, rewarding patient collectors.

The 2009 Dom Pérignon Rosé marks a return to a richer style of Rosé following the more ethereal 2008 Rosé. Sweet red cherry, blood orange, spice and pomegranate all build in a creamy, sensual DP Rosé that hits all the right spots. Over the last few years, Chef de Caves Vincent Chaperon and his team have lowered the still Pinot portion of the Rosé down to about 10% from a high of 28% or so, reached around 2004 and 2005. In 2009, the Rosé gains considerable textural presence from the generosity of the year. It is a superb Champagne. I preferred it to the 2008, which was also part of this tasting.
97 Points | James Suckling
Peaches, fresh crushed strawberries and roses on the nose. Full-bodied and generous. Fine tannins that frame the wine beautifully and set it up for a fresh finish. Some fruit tea and cedar undertones. Enticing finish with hints of bitterness. Savory. Drink or hold.
95 Points | Decanter, Tom Hewson
Dom Pérignon rosé 2009 arrives almost four years after the standard release, accordingly mature, expressive and open. Roughly equal proportions of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, but with a still red wine addition normally in the region of 15% (no more precise details were available at the time of launch). It's a huge contrast from the 2008, showing the warmth of the year with approachable, fleshy apricot and blood orange flavours, rounded and saturated with ripe fruit at its heart but beautifully detailed with hibiscus, liquorice and dried red berry fragrance. While structured, it is less firm and vinous than the comparably warm 2006; a supple, fluid and sweet kind of ripeness with a gently persistent citric length. While it will develop with interest in the medium term, this is a Dom Pérignon rosé that can be enjoyed close to its release.
