Domaine Vincent Latour - Meursault, Burgundy

Domaine Vincent Latour - Meursault, Burgundy

Vincent Latour is a prominent name in Burgundy’s Meursault region, with a winemaking heritage dating back to 1792. In 1998, Jean Latour passed the estate to his son Vincent and his mother, creating Domaine Jean Latour Labille et Fils. Vincent’s wife, Cécile, joined in 2004, bringing her expertise and helping to expand the estate to include prestigious appellations like Pommard and Chassagne-Montrachet, further building the family’s reputation for producing exceptional white wines.

In 2019, they modernized the estate with new cellars and a vat house, reflecting their commitment to quality and innovation. These updates, combined with their dedication to traditional techniques, ensure their wines capture the unique qualities of Burgundy, reinforcing Vincent Latour’s standing in the region.

The limestone-rich soils of Meursault play a central role in Vincent Latour’s wines, offering ideal conditions for Chardonnay. These soils, combined with optimal slopes and sun exposure, produce grapes with exceptional balance and minerality. Latour’s careful vineyard management preserves these qualities, resulting in wines that are fresh, vibrant, and complex, with a pronounced mineral character that reflects the unique terroir of Meursault.

Vincent Latour’s winemaking balances tradition and modernity. Wines are aged for 12 months in oak, then 4-6 months in vats, with minimal new oak to maintain the wine's delicate flavours. Large 600-litre barrels, or demi-muids, are used to promote purity and elegance. By avoiding batonnage, Latour ensures his wines stay fresh and focused, allowing the natural expression of the Meursault terroir to shine through.

We have two wines available, the Bourgogne Blanc Chardonnay which offers a fantastic price to quality ratio whilst the Les Grands Charrons steps up with a heap of complexities and beautifully showcases the character of his Meursault expressions. Classic white Burgundy fans should not miss these.

17+ / 20 Points, Jancis Robinson, Julia Harding MW

Inviting salty/citrus aroma – really salty and mineral. On the palate, citrus-acid tension, no fat whatsoever. But that freshness is balanced by a chewy/mealy texture that seems to add immense length. That saltiness comes back on the finish. Clearly more complexity to come.

Fine Wine Library Tasting note:

This Meursault showcases the full character of Les Grands Charrons’ limestone-rich slopes, delivering layers of ripe pear, stone fruit, and flinty minerality. The 2021 vintage brings a lively acidity, harmonised with a creamy texture and subtle notes of toasted hazelnut. It’s a complex, mineral-driven wine that beautifully captures Meursault’s terroir and precision.
