Relase of Dominio del Aguila Reserva 2019

Relase of Dominio del Aguila Reserva 2019

Dominio del Águila is one of Spain's leading wineries, standing shoulder to shoulder with Spanish greats such as Vega Sicilia and Pingus. We are excited to offer a limited selection of the newly arrived Reserva 2019, available for immediate delivery.

"the 2019 Reserva could be the modern version of the 2015—a round, lush and approachable Reserva that is perfumed and fruit-driven, with spices in the background." - Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate

Dominio del Águila stands as one of Spain's leading wineries, rivalling the likes of Vega Sicilia and Pingus. The magic begins with its creator and winemaker, Jorge Monzón Pascual. With an impressive career that includes stints at the illustrious Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and Vega Sicilia, Jorge brings unparalleled expertise to his craft.

In his native village of La Aguilera, Jorge has amassed small holdings of ancient, head-pruned vines. Here, he produces fresh and elegant Ribera wines using techniques like whole cluster fermentation—a nod to his DRC influence—foot treading, and prolonged ageing in his deeply buried underground cellar. This unique cellar, with its cool temperatures, allows for an exceptionally long élevage, typically 25 to 35 months, adding layers of complexity to his wines.

Any grapes Jorge doesn’t use are eagerly snapped up by top Spanish winemakers like Peter Sisseck of Pingus fame. Critics rave about his wines, with Luis Gutierrez of The Wine Advocate calling Dominio del Águila "the most thrilling new venture in Ribera del Duero." The exceptional quality, affordability, and clear lineage of these wines make them an irresistible addition to any collection. Now, a limited selection of the newly arrived Reserva 2019 is available for immediate delivery. Don't miss the chance to add these remarkable wines to your cellar.

2019 was a warm and dry low-yielding year, somewhat similar to 2015, and the 2019 Reserva could be the modern version of the 2015—a round, lush and approachable Reserva that is perfumed and fruit-driven, with spices in the background. It's a hedonist cuvée of 95% Tempranillo and 5% other grapes from some of the oldest grapes in the village. It fermented in concrete with indigenous yeasts followed by a slow malolactic in 228-litre French oak barrels, mostly used, where the wine matured for 35 months. It reveals very good integration of the oak that is neatly folded into the wine. It shows the tannic structure of the 2019 vintage. 23,875 bottles and 430 magnums were produced. It was bottled in September 2022.
