98-pointed Castello dei Rampolla Sammarco 2018

98-pointed Castello dei Rampolla Sammarco 2018

Nestled within Panzano, a charming hilltop town in the heart of Tuscany's celebrated Chianti Classico region, the distinguished Castello dei Rampolla estate stands majestically. It is enveloped by the exquisite Conca d’Oro, or “golden basin,” a natural amphitheater that boasts an extraordinary terroir, bordering Fontodi and its esteemed Flacianello vineyard.

The winery embodies not just the deep-rooted winemaking traditions of Italy but also stands at the forefront of innovation and sustainable viticulture practices. Though formally established in 1956, the roots of the Napoli Rampolla family, the stewards of this land, stretch back to 1739, marking a long-standing legacy of passion and dedication to winemaking on this historical site. Wine critics such as Antonio Galloni highlights that Rampolla has been one of Tuscany’s leading estates for more than four decades.

"Castello dei Rampolla's Sammarco and D'Alceo have been benchmarks for several decades. Both 2018s will take their place among the best wines ever made here. [...] Both are off the charts great." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Castello dei Rampolla Sammarco

A crowning jewel of Castello dei Rampolla, Sammarco wine expertly intertwines tradition with innovation. This Super Tuscan showcases a blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, accompanied by Sangiovese and a touch of Merlot, creating a complex and robust profile. Aged meticulously to achieve its distinct elegance and depth, Sammarco reflects the unique terroir of the Conca d'Oro. Its harmonious balance, intense aromas, and rich, lingering finish make it not just a wine, but an experience, embodying the innovative spirit and sustainability ethos of its makers.

It's long been reported that the 2018 vintage in Tuscany was exceptional and Rampolla has produced some of their best wines yet coming in at an incredibly high 98-points from Vinous, equally the score of Solaia 2018 which is very impressive. The 2018 Rampolla Sammaco has incredible energy and drive and will continue to drink until 2058.

“Sammarco is quite possibly the single greatest value in high-end Italian wine" - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Coming in at a price of €69.50 per bottle including BTW, the Sammarco is one of the more economical choices in the region that has wines like Solaia, Tignanello and Sassicaia leading the charge. With a limited number available, Italian fans should not hesitate to add some bottles to their cellar.

Rampolla Sammarco

98 Points | Vinous, Antonio Galloni

The 2018 Sammarco is brilliant. Bright and explosive, with tons of linear drive, the 2018 is exceptionally polished. Cabernet Sauvignon is up to 80% of the blend, and that very much comes through in a wine endowed with tremendous purity. Blue/purplish fruit, lavender, sage, mint and blood orange all race across the palate. I love the freshness here.
