Estate at a Glance
Domaine Rossignol-Trapet is based in Gevrey-Chambertin, in the heart of the Cote de Nuits, Burgundy. Founded in 1990 by brothers Nicolas and David Rossignol, the estate covers approximately 13 hectares and is certified biodynamic (Demeter), specialising in Pinot Noir. Notable vineyards include Chambertin, Latricieres-Chambertin, Chapelle-Chambertin, Clos Prieur, Petite Chapelle and Les Corbeaux.
Estate History
Domaine Rossignol-Trapet was created in 1990 following the division of the historic Trapet family estate. The domaine brings together two distinguished Burgundian wine families, the Rossignols of Volnay and the Trapets of Gevrey-Chambertin, whose histories were united through the marriage of Jacques Rossignol and Mado Trapet in 1961. Following the family division, brothers Nicolas and David Rossignol established Domaine Rossignol-Trapet whilst their cousin Jean-Louis Trapet continued with Domaine Trapet.
The brothers quickly developed their own identity. In 1997 they began converting the vineyards to biodynamic farming, becoming one of the earliest estates in Gevrey-Chambertin to adopt these methods. Demeter certification followed in 2004, reflecting a long-term commitment to healthier soils, greater biodiversity and wines that faithfully express their terroir.
Today, the domaine farms approximately 13 hectares across Gevrey-Chambertin, Beaune and Savigny-les-Beaune. Whilst production remains relatively small, Rossignol-Trapet has become one of Burgundy's benchmark biodynamic estates, producing wines celebrated for their elegance, balance and transparency.
