Weingut Eva Fricke – A Riesling Vision in the Rheingau
From the moment she left Bremen and began working on the steep slate slopes of Lorch, Eva Fricke set out to craft wines that express place with absolute clarity. What began in 2006 as a 0.2-hectare project has grown into one of Germany’s most admired small estates, now encompassing around 17 hectares of organically farmed vineyards. Her wines are celebrated for their precision, energy and authenticity, redefining the potential of Rheingau Riesling.
Eva’s journey took her through Bordeaux, Australia, Italy and Spain before returning to the Rheingau, where she chose to dedicate herself almost entirely to Riesling. More than 98 percent of her vineyards are planted to this noble variety, drawn from some of the region’s most striking sites in Lorch, Eltville, Hattenheim and Kiedrich. These vineyards, shaped by slate, quartzite, and clay-limestone soils, each bring their own mineral signature and aromatic nuance to the wines.
Viticulture at Eva Fricke is fully organic and deeply rooted in sustainability. Every slope is farmed by hand, with no herbicides or systemic treatments, and an unwavering commitment to soil vitality and biodiversity. The result is fruit of exceptional purity and natural balance, qualities that shine through in every wine she produces.
The Krone
Among Eva Fricke’s collection, the Krone vineyard holds a special place. Perched high above the Rhine on vertiginous slopes of weathered slate and quartzite, the Lorch Krone site is one of the Rheingau’s true treasures. Wines from this vineyard are crystalline and finely etched, combining piercing minerality with floral lift and remarkable ageing potential.
Each vintage of Lorch Krone Riesling captures the character of this dramatic landscape: wild herbs, citrus zest, wet stone and a cool, saline freshness that lingers long on the palate. These wines are the purest expression of Eva’s philosophy, built on patience, restraint and the deep understanding of her land.
