Estate at a Glance
Domaine Armand Rousseau is based in Gevrey-Chambertin, in the heart of the Cote de Nuits, Burgundy. Founded in 1909, the estate covers approximately 15 hectares under current winemaker Eric Rousseau, with the fourth generation represented by Cyrielle Rousseau. The domaine specialises in Pinot Noir. Notable vineyards include Chambertin, Chambertin-Clos de Beze, Clos Saint-Jacques, Clos des Ruchottes, Clos de la Roche, Charmes-Chambertin and Mazis-Chambertin.
Estate History
The foundations of Domaine Armand Rousseau were laid in the early twentieth century when Armand Rousseau began assembling vineyard holdings in Gevrey-Chambertin. At a time when most growers sold their wines to negociants, Armand was among the first Burgundian vignerons to bottle and market his own wines under the domaine's name, helping establish the estate's international reputation.
Following Armand's death in 1959, his son Charles Rousseau expanded the estate and cemented its standing as one of Burgundy's leading domaines through carefully considered vineyard acquisitions, including additional holdings in Chambertin, Clos de Beze and Clos de la Roche.
Today, Eric Rousseau oversees the winemaking alongside the next generation of the family. Vineyard work remains meticulous, yields are carefully controlled and the emphasis is always on allowing each climat to speak for itself. Production remains relatively small, ensuring that Domaine Armand Rousseau wines continue to be amongst the most sought-after in Burgundy.
