What the critics say:

98 Points | Decanter

A longer, cooler vintage has allowed the sum of all the distinctive site components to marry in ideal balance. It’s all there - pretty aromatics; plush, rounded fruit flavours with some stalky grip adding play to the texture, and a cloak of minerality providing an intriguing counterpoint as fine tannins grip at the finish. It’s alluring, enticing you back to keep reading its complexity.

97 Points | Real Review, Huon Hooke

Excellent depth of red with a strong purple tint, the bouquet black cherry, meaty/charcuterie and mossy undergrowth, while the palate is full and strong, with richness and fleshy extract aplenty, a powerful wine with tannins that are assertive and long. A subtle stalky whole-bunch note on the follow-through. A solidly built pinot of impressive concentration and real substance."

Matthew Jukes, 100 Best Australian Wines 2022/2023

2021 Coal River Valley Pinot Noir also sings of its origins, and it is every bit as calm and cool as its Chardonnay sibling. But there is a particular sort of earthiness here that differentiates this beautiful wine from those made in Mornington, Geelong or the Hills. There is a power-to-finesse ratio all of its own, and while the perfume appears gentle, harmonious and engaging, there is considerable energy and potential buried deep in this wine’s core, so try to be as patient as you possibly can before opening a bottle!

Tolpuddle

"Clarity, precision and focus that matches up to any top Grand Cru Burgundy. Not for the faint of heart but the fearless."

- James Suckling

Tolpuddle are leading the charge placing Tasmania on the global fine wine map. Tasmania, an island off the South-East side of Australia, offers a micro-climate that is more is more in line with regions of Europe such as Burgundy than it is with a typical hot Australian climate. The cooling influences of the ocean mean that Tasmania producers phenomenal wine from cool-climate grape types. Located towards the southeast of Tasmania, the Coal River Valley region producers the greatest chardonnay and pinot noir in Australia. Like great Burgundy, the grapes are handpicked, fermented and matured in French oak Barrels for 10 months with gentle batonnage. These wines don’t make it over to Europe in masses and often sell out on release quickly.
