What the critics say:

97 | Wine Advocate, Joe Czerwinski

Standish's 2017 The Relic Shiraz-Viognier includes 2% Viognier, just enough to soften the wine's considerable tannins and add a floral element on the nose. Gorgeous scents of brambly blackberries and anise lead into a wine that's full-bodied and plush, long and silky, adding hints of cocoa and espresso on the finish.

96 | Decanter, Sarah Ahmed

On the nose, sweet, silky red berry fruit, fresh redcurrant and fleshier blackberry and plum, laced with savoury fennel seed, dried mint, curry leaf, charcuterie and mocha oak nuances. Powdery, floral tannins cleave the fruit to the palate, rising to a focused, elegant and refined finish that is reflective of the cooler year in 2017. Drinking Window 2020 - 2038

The Standish Wine Company

"In the context of Australian shiraz, the Standish wines are continually regarded as being exceptionally high quality—among the very best"

- Erin Larkin, Wine Advocate

Having spent a stint at Australian icon Torbreck, Dan Standish travelled the world learning from the best winemakers in the Rhone, Napa, Sonoma and Spain. Upon his return to Australia, Dan started producing wine from ancient parcels of Shiraz that were farmed by his father. All of the grapes are handpicked, wild fermented in open-top fermenters and matured in French oak for 18-22 months with the aim being to let the vineyard expression shine through as opposed to the oak overpowering.

Dan currently producers four wines; The Standish – Shiraz from Greenock, The Schubert – Shiraz from Roennfeldt Road, Lamella – Shiraz from Eden Valley, The Relic – 99% Shiraz / 1% Viognier from Krondorf. Across the board, the Standish wines are incredibly concentrated or opulent but are balanced with precision and fruit purity. In the last few vintages, both the Wine Advocate and James Suckling have given high praise to the wines from Standish. The only downside to the wines is that our allocation of these wines are so small. So if you see some available on the website, then it’s your lucky chance to snap some up.
