Tim Atkin's 2020 Cape Classification:
Much like the classification of Bordeaux set out in 1855, after extensive years of tasting and many trips to the Cape, Tim Atkin has classed the top winemakers into a 5 tier system. With such things, they do need to be taken with a little pinch of salt. Much like Pontet Canet being granted Fifth Growth status in 1855 in Bordeaux, there are a few anomalies with the likes of Ataraxia's Chardonnay punches well above its weight as a third growth for example. Overall the classification does help to de-mystify the region well with the first growths being accurate having provided us with many evenings of pleasure.
