South Africa is one of the most exciting and dynamic winemaking regions. Historically gaining a reputation for producing mass-consumed wines for supermarkets, South African wines couldn't be more different today. Arguably the man who pioneered the Fine Wine production movement in South Africa is Eben Sadie whose knowledge and passion have had a knock-on effect on younger winemakers. Buying good South African red wine doesn't have to break the bank as factors such as low labour costs make the wines incredibly affordable.
The best South African wines and often the most famous South African wine producers included: Boekenhoutskloof who led the Swartland revolution placing the region on the map. They now produced a number of wines from Swartland, Franschhoek, and Stellenbosch. Reyneke produces complex and thought-provoking, magical wines from South Africa's first and only biodynamic winery. Porseleinberg who's Syrah has become one of the most iconic in the world but is often difficult to track down on release.
