A pioneering producer in Central Otago, Rippon is one of the oldest producers in New Zealand being founded in 1982. Being situated on Lake Wanaka, Rippon is the most beautiful and photographed estate in New Zealand. Current winemaker Nick Mills has an impressive CV having worked with some of the finest Domaines in the world; Comte Armand, Domaine de la Vougeraie and Domaine JJ Confuron to name a few.
The wines are both organic and biodynamic with a focus on subplots or climats which all perform differently. The house style is concentrated yet silky and elegant. The wines are thought-provoking retaining good depths, weight, and mystery. Emma’s Block is the most approachable Cuvee from the start, whereas Tinker’s Field requires time and patients. Rippon has been firing from all cylinders recently producing hit after hit with scores up to 99-Points placing it in the realms of Grand Cru Burgundy. It won’t be long until their hard work pays off and they get the coveted 100-Points score.
