"Dog Point makes pure, low-yield Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from its organic vineyards in Marlborough"
- Rebecca Gibb MW | Vinous
Dog Point is the joint venture of two pioneers, James Healy and Ivan Sutherland who met whilst working at New Zealand wine legend Cloudy Bay, which put New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc on the global fine wine map. The pair shared a vision of a more hands-on vineyard management and winemaker style. They decided to launch Dog Point in 2004 with a focus on organic winemaking philosophies and biodiversity on the property.
The Dog Point became known for making a new wave style of Sauvignon Blanc; flint and mineral notes are more prominent than the classic New Zealand gooseberry notes. A wine with roots more relatable to Sancerre than New Zealand. Dog Point’s Section 94 Cuvee is one of the best barrel-aged Sauvignons from Marlborough displaying sexy lees, reductive flinty notes, and spice balanced out by bright fruit.
