Il Poggione

"Il Poggione’s Brunello di Montalcino remains one of the most fairly priced, ageworthy wines on the planet."
- Antonio Galloni, Vinous

With a history dating back to over 100 years ago, Il Poggione is one of Tuscany's and Brunello di Montalcino's most historic wine estates. Originally founded by Lavinio Franceschi’s, the estate is now run by the 5th generations family members Leopoldo and Livia Franceschi. Il Poggione was one three wineries that helped establish the Brunello di Montalcino consortium, safe guarding the region’s style and quality. Ultimately, this was the first step in cementing Brunello di Montalcino on the global fine wine scene.

Il Poggione is one the largest estates in the region owning 125 hectares of Brunello designated vineyards and producing around 200,000 bottles of Brunello each vintage. With their meticulous work in the vineyard and winery, they are able to keep quality incredibly high whilst prices remain modest. Their Vigna Paganelli Riserva is one of the regions oldest vineyards having been planted in 1964 and typically their vineyards sit between 150 to 450 meters above sea level.

If you’re after classical Sangiovese, then look no further than Il Poggione.
