What the critcis say:

96 Points | Tim Atkin MW

Boekenhoutskloof's Semillon is the only wine that Gottfried Mocke makes from a flat vineyard – and what a site it is, planted in 1902 on François Malherbe's farm. Blended with a 40% contribution from much steeper La Colline, it’s subtly wooded, with lanolin, citrus and some stony sap, lovely balance and just a hint of extra perfume from a splash of Muscat
d'Alexandrie. 2021-28

Boekenhoutskloof

"The wine that launched the modern Syrah revolution in South Africa"

- Tim Atkin MW

Boekenhoutskloof is one of the huge success stories of South Africa. Spearheaded by Marc Kent who was instrumental in the ‘Swartland revolution’ placing the region and South African Syrah on the global fine wine map. In 2015, Marc was joined by Gottfried Mocke who helped push the boundaries even further. Tim Atkin MW awarded Gottfried the coveted South Africa's Winemaker of the Year in 2020 placing him amongst the country's best such as Eben Sadie.

All four wines speak for themselves with a distinct personality. Boekenhoutskloof’s Syrah has been accredited to launching the modern Syrah revolution in South Africa. It’s been described as “hermitage-like” and a wine “with its feet firmly planted in the earth while its head is in the clouds such is the scale and majesty of its posture” (Matthew Jukes MW). Boekenhoutskloof’s produces two Cabernet Sauvignon’s, one from Stellenbosch, the other from Franschhoek with the terroir of the former described as “the Pauillac of Stellenbosch” by Tim Atkin MW. Both Cabernet’s are classy sophisticated and comparable to great Bordeaux. The Semillon is world-class and incredibly unique having been grown from vines with over 100 years of age. Beautifully yellow in colour with complexities of orange marmalade, flint, waxy lees, and oak. The wines are consistently being awarded high scores by Platters Guide, Tim Atkin, and Vinous.
